Cyril Shroff to Chair BCI Committee Set up to Review Entry of Foreign Lawyers to India

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has appointed Cyril Shroff, Managing Partner of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, to chair a new high-powered committee tasked with reviewing the implementation of new rules governing the entry of foreign lawyers and law firms into India.

The committee includes other senior legal professionals, such as Ajay Bahl (AZB), Suhail Nathani (ELP), Sandip Bhagat (S&R), Mahesh Agarwal, and Amit Kapur (JSA), with BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra as a special invitee.

It will review the impact of recent amendments that permit foreign lawyers to practice non-litigious foreign law and international arbitration in India on a reciprocity basis, while safeguarding Indian advocates’ interests.

The committee’s findings are expected to guide further regulatory clarity and address stakeholder apprehensions.
