Dabur to Remove "Anti-Bacterial" or "Anti Inflammatory" Health Claims from Toothpaste Labels : Bombay HC

Dabur to Remove "Anti-Bacterial" or "Anti Inflammatory" Health Claims from Toothpaste Labels : Bombay HC

  • Case Name: Dabur India Ltd. v. State of Maharashtra

Dabur India Ltd has informed the Bombay High Court by June 2025, it will remove terms like "anti-inflammatory," "anti-bacterial," and "analgesic" from the labels of its Dabur Meswak Toothpaste and Dabur Herbal Anti-Bacterial Toothpaste Tulsi.

The decision follows an order from the Maharashtra Government’s Food & Drug Administration (FDA), which deemed these claims legally incorrect, although it acknowledged that the products are not hazardous to health.

The court accepted Dabur's commitment, allowing the sale of existing stock until May 31, 2025, but prohibiting the use of the contested labels from June 1 onward.
