The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) at Ernakulam ordered digital retailer myG Future to pay over ₹15,000 to senior citizen Manuel Vincent for a misleading advertisement falsely claiming a 64% discount on a biryani pot.
The ad showed an original price of ₹3,299, discounted to ₹1,199, but the invoice revealed the actual original price was ₹1,890. Vincent alleged the discount was inflated to attract customers.
After myG Future ignored his legal notice and failed to respond, the Commission ruled that the inflated pricing constituted unfair trade practice and misleading advertisement under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
myG Future must refund ₹519, pay ₹10,000 for mental agony, ₹5,000 legal costs, and stop such ads.
