Bar Council of Delhi Warns Lawyers Against Self-Promotion and Misinformation on Social Media

The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) has issued a warning to lawyers against using social media posts, interviews, and images of cases to promote themselves, stating that this is against Rule 36 of the Bar Council of India Rules.

It also flagged concerns over untrained legal influencers spreading misinformation.

The Council said such actions amount to professional misconduct under Section 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961, and could lead to suspension or cancellation of licences.

Lawyers have been asked to remove such content to avoid disciplinary action. The notice was issued on August 4.
