The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Delhi found Emami Limited guilty of misleading advertising and unfair trade practices related to its "Fair and Handsome" fairness cream.
The company claimed the product would deliver fair skin in three weeks, but failed to provide adequate evidence. The case was filed by Nikhil Jain, who purchased the cream for ₹79 but saw no results.
Emami’s defence was rejected. The Commission ordered Emami to withdraw misleading ads, pay ₹14.5 lakh in damages, ₹50,000 to the complainant, and ₹10,000 in litigation costs.
This is the second time the Commission ruled against Emami on this issue, following a 2017 appeal.
