Delhi Court Restrains Unacademy from Using ANI’s Copyrighted News Videos on its Youtube Channel

  • Case Name: ANI Media Pvt. Ltd. Vs. Pathfinder By Unacademy & Anr.

A Delhi court has restrained Unacademy from using ANI’s copyrighted videos on its YouTube channel ‘Pathfinder by Unacademy’.

The order, issued on July 14 by District Judge Hemani Malhotra, also directed Google to take down and block the infringing content.

ANI accused Unacademy of using three of its original news videos without permission, gaining commercial benefit from content meant for civil service aspirants. The news agency emphasised that it holds the exclusive rights to its material.

ANI sought ₹5 lakh in damages and a permanent injunction. Unacademy claimed “fair dealing” as a defence, but the court found prima facie copyright infringement and issued interim relief in ANI’s favour.
