Delhi Court Directs Saregama to Pay ₹5 Lakh Compensation to Singer Anamika Over Wrong Copyright Strike

A Delhi court directed Saregama India Ltd. to pay ₹5 lakh compensation to singer Anamika after finding that the company had wrongly issued a copyright strike against her YouTube content.

The Court observed that the takedown notice was issued without adequate verification of ownership rights and resulted in reputational and professional harm to the singer.

It held that misuse of copyright enforcement mechanisms can unfairly affect independent creators and artists who rely on digital platforms for visibility and livelihood.

Stressing the need for due diligence before initiating copyright claims, the Court found Saregama’s action unjustified and granted compensation to Anamika for the wrongful strike.
