A Delhi court has granted regular bail to Vinesh Chandel, director and co-founder of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), in a money laundering case linked to an alleged coal-smuggling racket.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not oppose the bail application. Chandel was arrested shortly before the West Bengal Assembly elections, triggering a political controversy due to I-PAC's role as a consultant for the Trinamool Congress.
The court noted that because the ED chose not to oppose the plea, the stringent "twin conditions" of the PMLA were not applicable.
Chandel has been directed to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
