The Delhi High Court has intervened after a woman filed a criminal case against her estranged husband, alleging fraud and harassment, despite having already spent half of the divorce settlement.
The Court noted that the woman had accepted and utilized a significant portion of the settlement amount before initiating criminal proceedings.
Observing possible misuse of the legal process, the Court directed both parties to maintain the status quo and scheduled a hearing to assess the bona fides of the complaint.
The judge emphasized that criminal law should not be used as a tool for settling post-divorce financial disputes.
