Delhi Court order FIR & Probe into Alleged Custodial Death at Subhash Place Police Station

A Delhi court has ordered the registration of an FIR and a thorough investigation into the alleged custodial death of Sheikh Shadat at Subhash Place police station. 

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vasundhra Chhaunkar found prima facie evidence of a cognisable offence after reviewing photographs and video footage showing injury marks on Shadat’s body. 

The Court noted that, despite a judicial inquest attributing death to coronary artery disease, visible injuries warranted further inquiry.

The judge directed police to investigate technical evidence and witness accounts, and to submit a compliance report by June 28.(Setara Bibi v. Unknown Persons)
