Delhi Court Summons Two Cops in Faizan Death Case During 2020 Delhi Riots

A Delhi court has summoned two Delhi Police personnel in connection with the custodial death of 23-year-old Faizan, who was brutally beaten during the 2020 Delhi riots and forced to sing the national anthem.

The summons followed a CBI chargesheet filed pursuant to a 2024 Delhi High Court order transferring the probe due to serious lapses by Delhi Police.

The accused constables have been booked for offences including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Taking cognisance, the court found sufficient material to proceed.

The High Court had earlier termed the incident a hate crime and criticised the police investigation as “tardy and sketchy.”
