Plea moved in Delhi HC to take down court order from Indian Kanoon under "Right to be Forgotten"

The Delhi High Court issued notices to MeitY, Indian Kanoon, and Google on a businessman's petition to remove an old court order from the Indian Kanoon website.

The petitioner, whose anticipatory bail plea was granted in a now-closed criminal case, argued that the order negatively impacted his reputation and business. The court directed its registry to mask the petitioner's name in the present case.

Google's counsel informed the court about pending cases related to the "right to be forgotten" and the ongoing debate about the extent of this right in the context of court orders.

The court recognized the complexities of balancing freedom of speech with the right to be forgotten, particularly concerning public records like court orders.

The next hearing is listed for February 4.
