The Delhi HC pulled up the State government for not appointing the chairperson and members of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) since July 2023, and questioned the stand that the delay was to ensure transparency.
The issue arose in a petition seeking directions to fill the vacant posts, with the Commission remaining non-functional for an extended period. The Court observed that such inaction undermines the legislative mandate under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, Juvenile Justice Act, and POCSO Act.
Referring to the State’s affidavit stating the process would conclude by April 2026, the Court cautioned that failure to complete appointments within the stated timeline would invite serious consequences.
The matter is listed for April 15.
