Delhi High Court Directs MCD to Regulate Weekly Markets to Prevent Safety Risks for Residents

The Delhi High Court observed that weekly markets in the city must be strictly regulated to ensure they do not become a "safety and security nightmare" for local residents.

The Bench issued this direction while hearing a petition from an Uttam Nagar resident regarding extensive encroachment during the locality’s Monday market.

The Court noted a "stark" difference in accessibility on market days based on photographic evidence.

Consequently, the MCD has been ordered to submit a comprehensive plan to manage vendor numbers and space occupation. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on August 6.
