The Delhi High Court granted an ex-parte injunction restraining eight individuals from misusing journalist Rajat Sharma's name, likeness and personality traits through deepfake videos endorsing pharmaceutical drugs.
Justice Amit Bansal held that a prima facie case was established, noting irreparable harm and the public's risk of being misled. The injunction extends to all mediums and technologies, including AI and deepfakes. Meta Platforms Inc. was directed to remove infringing content. The Court emphasized the misuse undermines Sharma’s professional standing and violates publicity and personality rights.
The case is listed for further hearing on April 3, 2025.
