Delhi High Court Upholds NHRC Order: Police to Pay ₹50,000 Compensation For Failing to Register FIR

  • Case Name: Commissioner of Police, Delhi vs. Dr. Neeraj Kumar

The Delhi High Court upheld the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) order, directing the Delhi Police to pay ₹50,000 to Dr. Neeraj Kumar for failing to register an FIR.

In November 2021, certain miscreants entered Dr. Kumar’s clinic and harassed his female staff.

Despite his police control room (PCR) call, the police took no action. The NHRC issued a show-cause notice under Section 18 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, holding the police accountable.

The police challenged this, but Justice Sachin Datta dismissed their plea, confirming the compensation must be paid, reinforcing that authorities cannot neglect their duty to protect citizens’ rights.
