The Delhi High Court has directed the CBI to register an FIR and investigate allegations of an extortion racket inside Tihar Jail involving officials and inmates.
Acting on a plea highlighting illegalities, malpractices, and misconduct, the Court reviewed reports from the Delhi Government’s Principal Secretary (Home) and a CBI preliminary enquiry, terming the allegations “astonishing” and warranting urgent government action.
It ordered a sealed-cover status report on the probe’s progress. Earlier, the Court had instructed a fact-finding enquiry to identify responsible officials.
The petition claims facilities inside the jail were secured through collusion between inmates, outsiders, and jail staff to extort money.
