NHRC Must Decide Omar Rashid’s Complaint on Rape, Beef-Eating Allegations in 6 Weeks: Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court directed the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to decide within six weeks a complaint filed by journalist Omar Rashid regarding false social media allegations of rape and forced beef-eating.

Justice Subramonium Prasad instructed the NHRC to follow due process and conclude the inquiry within the stipulated period.

The petition claimed that the allegations caused severe reputational harm. The Court also allowed Rashid to obtain copies of the action-taken report and responses filed by the Delhi Police, ensuring transparency in the proceedings.

The NHRC was directed to dispose of the complaint strictly in accordance with the law.
