Delhi HC Protects Public Figures' Personality Rights

Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, a famous surgeon, filed a case to stop others from using his name or photo without permission. Some operators of Facebook pages and online platforms were accused of sharing doctored videos falsely showing him giving health advice and endorsing products.

Actors Amitabh Bachchan, and Jackie Shroff, filed similar cases to protect their identities. Dr. Shetty and the actors argued that using their names or images without permission harmed their reputation.

The Delhi High Court barred misuse of Dr. Shetty's identity, ordered social media platforms to remove misleading content, and set a hearing for April 15, 2025.
