Delhi High Court Directs Retrospective Pay Hike for Law Researchers to ₹80,000/Month from October 1, 2022

The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Government to retrospectively revise the remuneration of law researchers attached to judges at the High Court to ₹80,000 per month, effective from October 1, 2022.

A Division Bench disposed of a petition filed by 13 law researchers who sought implementation of the 2023 approval by the Chief Justice to raise pay from ₹65,000 to ₹80,000.

The Court held that the salary enhancement, sanctioned under Article 229 of the Constitution, must take effect from the date approved by the CJI and noted that the Government lacked valid justification for delaying implementation.
