Delhi High Court Reads Down UGC Norm Allowing Assistant Professors’ Selection Solely via Interview

The Delhi High Court read down UGC regulations permitting the selection of assistant professors based solely on interviews, holding that such a process is vulnerable to arbitrariness and violates Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution.

The Court also held that a seat reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) cannot be converted for PwBD candidates from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

The Court quashed the recruitment process of NIEPA and directed it to re-advertise the PwBD-reserved post within eight weeks, retaining its original reservation and following a lawful selection framework.
