The Delhi HC has denied a premature release request of a man convicted for life for being part of a terrorist conspiracy. The court ruled that while a convict has the right to have his case considered, he cannot demand release as an absolute right.
The court noted that the petitioner was convicted under the now-repealed Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act of 1987 and was initially sentenced to death, which was later commuted to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court in 2003.
The court stated that the crime was an attack on the sovereignty of India and undermined the nation's security.
