Justice Navin Chawla of the Delhi High Court recused himself on July 2, 2025, from hearing a plea by 13 legal researchers seeking implementation of a 2023 decision to raise their remuneration from ₹65,000 to ₹80,000, effective October 1, 2022.
This marks the second recusal in the case, after Justice Ajay Digpaul stepped aside in May.
The petitioners allege arbitrary delay by the Delhi government despite administrative approval from the High Court. They seek immediate implementation, with arrears at 18% interest.
The matter will now be assigned to another bench. (Rushant Malhotra & Ors. Vs The Government of NCT of Delhi & Ors)
