Delhi High Court reserves verdict on MP Engineer Rashid’s plea against custody parole expenses of ₹4 Lakh

The Delhi High Court reserved its verdict on jailed J&K MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh’s plea challenging a trial court order directing him to pay nearly ₹4 lakh for custody parole to attend Parliament.

A Bench of Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Anup Jairam Bhambhani observed that since Rashid remains in custody, jail authorities should bear the expenses.

Senior Advocate N Hariharan argued that the Delhi Prison Rules do not permit charging police salaries, though Rashid is willing to cover reasonable costs like meals.

Rashid, elected from Baramulla in 2024, has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 in an NIA terror-funding case under UAPA.
