The Delhi High Court directed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to obtain instructions and clarify whether the Supreme Court Metro station can be displayed in Hindi as “Sarvochh Nyayalay.”
The direction was issued in a PIL challenging the use of transliteration rather than a proper Hindi translation in the Devanagari script following the renaming of the station.
The Court pointed out that stations such as Delhi University and Central Secretariat are reflected in Hindi and questioned the inconsistency. The petitioner relied on Article 343 of the Constitution, the Official Languages Act, 1963 and the Official Language Rules, 1976.
DMRC informed the Court that the station name was inscribed as proposed by the Supreme Court. The matter is listed for February 19.
