The Delhi High Court issued notice on a petition filed by 32 LL.M. students challenging Delhi University’s condition prohibiting them from engaging in any profession, including practising law, during the two-year course
The petitioners, already enrolled as advocates, argued that the affidavit requirement is arbitrary, unconstitutional, and violative of Articles 14, 19(1)(g), and 21.
They noted that, unlike DU, other universities with more intensive one-year LL.M. courses allow students to practice, creating an unfair disadvantage.
Justice Vikas Mahajan directed Delhi University and the Bar Council of India to file their responses and listed the matter for September 25.
