Delhi HC Seeks Response from the Government on Plea to Prohibit ‘Osho’ as a Trademark

The Delhi High Court has sought responses from the Central government and the Trademark Registry on a plea to disallow trademark registrations using the name ‘Osho.’

The petition was filed by Osho Friends International, an association of Osho’s disciples, seeking to include ‘Osho’ in the list of prohibited marks. Justice Saurabh Banerjee issued a notice and directed both parties to submit written submissions.

The plea argues that ‘Osho’ has a widespread following, similar to religious figures already protected from trademark registration.

The matter is expected to be heard in July 2025. Notably, Osho Friends is also engaged in a copyright dispute with Osho International Foundation.
