Delhi High Court Issues Bailable Warrants Over Derogatory Social Media Post

The Delhi High Court issued bailable warrants against a man accused of contempt for calling court proceedings “stupid” on social media. The Court observed that such derogatory comments erode public confidence in the judiciary and cannot be taken lightly.

The Court emphasised that freedom of expression does not extend to contemptuous statements that undermine the dignity and authority of the court. Despite granting the accused an opportunity to appear voluntarily, the Court noted his continued non-compliance and ordered coercive action to secure his presence.

The matter is scheduled for further hearing on December 2.
