The Delhi High Court has urged the NLU Consortium to take a concrete decision within eight weeks on conducting CLAT in regional languages, ensuring no student faces exclusion due to English proficiency.
Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya emphasised that while English is only a language, inclusivity is essential. The court acknowledged practical challenges but stressed the need for a roadmap.
The Centre and BCI supported the plea, citing equality in legal education.
Petitioner Sudhanshu Pathak filed the matter, which will be heard next on August 20. Currently, CLAT is conducted only in English.
