The Delhi High Court ordered the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to allow certified street vendors in Shalimar Bagh to resume their approved weekly market, warning that any breach of Town Vending Committee rules will attract criminal action.
A division bench of Justices Nitin Sambre and Anish Dayal held that management challenges such as unauthorised stalls, overcrowding and safety concerns do not justify shutting down the market.
Instead, the MCD must regulate vendor numbers, enforce operating hours and remove illegal structures.
The Court emphasised targeted enforcement against unauthorised encroachments rather than blanket bans, ensuring lawful vendors can continue earning their livelihood.
