The Delhi High Court has directed the Central Information Commission (CIC) to decide whether ‘Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust’ qualifies as a public authority under RTI Act, 2005.
Union Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the trust is an autonomous body, not owned, controlled or financed by the Government of India, and was formed by the Government in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Ram Janmabhumi Temple case.
RTI applicant Neeraj Sharma challenged the MHA’s response and moved to the High Court, and the court instructed CIC to decide the trust's status under Section 2(h) of RTI Act.
