The Delhi High Court awarded Rs. 8 lakh in damages to Puma in its trademark infringement suit against a counterfeiter manufacturing fake Puma products.
Justice Saurabh Banerjee noted that Puma’s well-known trademarks deserve heightened protection due to their long-standing recognition and susceptibility to piracy.
Since the defendant failed to appear or respond since February 2024, the Court held them guilty of deliberate counterfeiting with intent to deceive consumers.
The Court emphasised that Puma is a reputable brand with extensive market presence, and such infringement cannot be tolerated. The defendant’s silence demonstrated intentional wrongdoing, prompting the Court to grant relief in favour of Puma. (Puma Se v Himanshu Sharma)
