Delhi Lawyers Protest over Lieutenant Governers' Order, Call Police Station Evidence Recording Unfair

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) condemned the Delhi Lieutenant Governor’s August 13 notification declaring police station video conferencing rooms as designated places for recording police evidence.

The DHCBA said the move violates fair trial principles and jeopardises trial outcomes. On August 21, the Coordination Committee of district court bar associations announced a two-day strike (August 22-23) protesting the notification.

The order covers 226 police stations under BNSS provisions, but lawyers argued it undermines the accused’s right to be present during evidence recording, as safeguarded under Section 308 BNSS.

Formal objections have been submitted to the LG and government.
