Delhi High Court Cancels Anticipatory Bail Over Alleged Rape and Bribery Attempt

Delhi High Court Cancels Anticipatory Bail Over Alleged Rape and Bribery Attempt

The Delhi High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to a 51-year-old advocate accused of repeatedly raping and assaulting a 27-year-old lawyer, observing that he attempted to influence the complainant through two judicial officers.

Justice Amit Mahajan noted that audio recordings revealed an alleged ₹30 lakh bribe offer routed through intermediaries, including a judicial officer. The Court described the conduct as “shocking” and held that such misuse of bail, coupled with attempts to tamper with evidence and influence witnesses, warranted cancellation.

The Court directed the accused to surrender within one week, emphasising that anticipatory bail cannot be used as a shield for obstruction of justice.
