The Delhi High Court held that it cannot direct the government or the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to rename metro stations, observing that such decisions fall within the executive’s administrative and policy domain.
The Court was hearing a plea by the Residents Welfare Association of Rangpuri village seeking the renaming of the upcoming Mahipalpur Metro Station as Rangpuri Metro Station.
The petitioner argued that most of the land for the station was acquired from Rangpuri and that government policy supported naming stations after the concerned locality.
While refusing to issue directions on renaming, the Court asked the authorities to consider the representation within six weeks.
