Delhi High Court Directs Wipro to Pay ₹2 Lakh for Defaming Employee in Termination Letter

The Delhi High Court directed Wipro to pay ₹2 lakh in damages to a former employee for including defamatory remarks in his termination letter.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav held that unproven allegations of "lack of integrity" and "conflict of interest" amounted to defamation per se.

The Court emphasised that such remarks in a termination letter, without proof, tarnish a professional’s reputation and future prospects.

While the Court did not find procedural irregularity in the termination itself, it held that Wipro was liable for civil damages due to the unwarranted, stigmatising language used.
