The Delhi High Court has restrained Lavangiri Ansar Basha, the defendant in this case, from posting defamatory content against the edtech platform upGrad.
The defendant had accused the company of misleading students, citing a ₹4 lakh program tied to Golden Gate University that allegedly left over 700 students stranded.
Despite a refund offer from upGrad, the defendant continued making posts, including mocking the lawsuit on LinkedIn. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora ruled that abusive comments can’t be justified by a commercial dispute and banned the defendant from using hashtags like “#upGradscam” until August 22, when the matter will be heard again.
