The Delhi High Court granted bail to a murder accused and expressed concern over the prolonged pendency of bail applications.
The accused had been in custody since October 2021, and his bail plea remained pending before the trial court for over 25 months and before the High Court since December 2024.
The Court said such a delay causes trauma to incarcerated persons and violates their fundamental rights.
Noting that prosecution witnesses had already been examined and there was no risk of tampering, the Court allowed the bail plea and directed immediate communication of the order to jail authorities.
