The Delhi High Court granted partial relief to Princeton University in its trademark infringement case against Vagdevi Educational Society, Hyderabad.
The Court restrained the Society from establishing new institutions under the “Princeton” name or similar marks during the pendency of the suit and directed it to submit biannual affidavits regarding receipts from existing institutions using the name.
The Court did not restrict the Society’s current operations, noting its long-standing use of the mark. Princeton University had claimed prior use of the “Princeton” mark in India since 1911, and the matter remains pending for final resolution.
