Delhi High Court Grants Wife Guardianship of Husband in Vegitative State

The Delhi High Court held that the wife should be appointed as the legal guardian of her husband, who remains in a vegetative and comatose state after a brain haemorrhage.

The petition was filed by the wife seeking guardianship over her husband, Salam Khan, who has been unconscious and bed-bound since his medical emergency in February 2025.

The Court, after considering the medical records and the SDM’s report, allowed the plea and appointed the wife as guardian.

It granted her the right to take decisions on his treatment, finances, daily expenses, and management of jointly held assets, while stating that any issues regarding his estate can be addressed separately under law.
