The Delhi High Court held 12 men guilty of criminal contempt for assaulting 11 lawyers appointed as Court Commissioners in Kolkata in 2015. A Division Bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar sentenced each contemnor to one day’s simple imprisonment and a fine of ₹2,000.
The lawyers were attacked while executing a Samsung Electronics trademark infringement inspection.
The Court said the assault was intended to intimidate and obstruct the Commissioners, amounting to interference with justice.
The court emphasised that such acts undermine respect for law and the rule of law, warning that strict action against contemporaries is necessary.
