The Delhi High Court issued notice on a plea by the Popular Front of India (PFI) challenging the five-year ban imposed on it under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela held that the petition is maintainable under Article 226 and directed the Centre to file a counter-affidavit within six weeks, with two weeks for rejoinder.
The ban, imposed in September 2022 and upheld by a UAPA tribunal in March 2023, declared PFI and its affiliates as unlawful associations over alleged terror links.
The matter will be heard on January 20, 2026.
