Delhi High Court Awards ₹5 Lakh Damages to TV Today Network Over Defamatory Tweets Against Rajdeep Sardesai

The Delhi High Court has awarded ₹5 lakh damages to TV Today Network over defamatory tweets against anchor Rajdeep Sardesai following his 2020 interview with Rhea Chakraborty.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav held that the tweets, which called Sardesai a “dalla,” compared him to Zakir Naik, and alleged bribery, were highly defamatory and caused reputational and financial harm.

The Court noted that the defendant, Anurag Srivastava, failed to substantiate his claims despite being given opportunities.

Finding the tweets irresponsible and damaging to credibility, the Court ordered compensation for loss of reputation, emotional hardship, and professional credibility.
