Delhi High Court Orders ₹5 Lakh Damages to Veerji Restaurant in Trademark Dispute

The Delhi High Court has awarded ₹5 lakh in damages and costs to MS Veerji Restaurant Pvt. Ltd. in a trademark infringement suit against five eateries that used deceptively similar names.

Justice Amit Bansal noted that the defendants, who failed to appear in court, operated under names like “Veer Ji Malai Chaap Wale” and “Veere Di Malai Chaap,” exploiting the goodwill of the original “Veerji” mark.

The Court held them liable for unfairly benefiting from Veerji’s reputation, ordering each to pay ₹1 lakh. The suit was decreed ex parte after no written statements were filed. One defendant had earlier settled the matter.
