Delhi High Court Orders Fencing Of Yamuna Floodplain Graveyard & Bans Residential Use

The Delhi High Court has directed authorities to fence a graveyard on the Yamuna floodplains and restrain any new construction meant for people to stay or live in the area.

Holding that floodplains are ecologically sensitive zones, the Court ruled that no person, including caretakers, can reside there.

The court also observed that burials, if any, must be strictly limited to the fenced area, with no post-burial occupation permitted.

The Court also flagged illegal encroachments, tree felling, and recent constructions, ordering strict compliance and listing the matter for further hearing.
