Jigra Movie : Delhi HC Orders Mediation in MSF Trademark Dispute

  • Case Name: Medecins Sans Frontieres International vs Dharma Productions Private Limited
  • Judge(s): Justice Mini Pushkarna
  • Advocate(s): Shwetasree Majumder, Nakul Dewan

The dispute arose over using the trademark "Doctors without Borders" in a scene from the movie, Jigra. MSF objected to the scene under Section 29 of the Trademarks Act, 1999, which addresses trademark infringement.

MSF further argued that screening the movie in Delhi established the jurisdiction of the Delhi High Court under Section 134 of the Trademarks Act, 1999.

As per Section 89 of CPC, 1908, the Court directed both parties to appear before the mediation centre on Dec 24, 2024. If the Mediation fails, the matter will be listed for further hearing on Jan 30, 2025.
