Delhi High Court Orders Meta to Remove Fake Instagram Profiles Impersonating 15-Year-Old Girl

  • Case Name: Minor Victim through Neetu Sharma vs Meta Platforms Inc & Ors.

The Delhi High Court, led by Justice Manoj Jain, directed Meta to immediately take down Instagram accounts impersonating a 15-year-old girl using morphed and obscene images.

The girl, represented by her mother, alleged blackmail and coercion after her photos were misused. Citing impersonation and online sexual harassment, the court ordered Meta to disclose Basic Subscriber Information (BSI), including IP addresses.

The unknown defendants are restrained from uploading any images, pending identification. The order invokes principles under the Information Technology Act, 2000, Indian Penal Code Sections 354D and 509, and Article 21. The matter is listed next on September 8, 2025.
