Delhi High Court Orders Readmission of Mildly Autistic Child, Emphasises Right to Inclusive Education

The Delhi High Court directed GD Goenka Public School to readmit an 8‑year‑old girl with mild autism into Class I or an age‑appropriate grade, with the assistance of a shadow teacher, asserting that inclusive education is about “belongingness,” not just access. 

Justice Vikas Mahajan ruled that no child can be excluded due to institutional unwillingness to adapt.

The Court noted the school’s failure to meaningfully accommodate the child’s needs and rejected technical objections like class capacity.

The Directorate of Education was also directed to monitor the child’s reintegration into the school.
