Delhi High Court Quashes Case Against DU Student Accused of Stealing Biryani Seller's Phone

The Delhi High Court has quashed an FIR against a student of Ramjas College accused of stealing a biryani seller’s phone and withdrawing ₹89,000 from his bank account.

Justice Manoj Jain noted the student’s young age, clean antecedents, and the amicable settlement between the parties. The withdrawn amount had been returned, and the offences were compoundable in nature.

On the day of the incident, four men had purchased biryani, after which the seller discovered his phone missing and funds withdrawn using a new SIM card.

Observing that no larger public interest was involved, the Court exercised powers under Section 528 BNSS to quash the FIR.
