Delhi High Court Questions Maintainability of Sameer Wankhede’s Defamation Case Over Netflix Series

The Delhi High Court on Friday questioned the jurisdictional basis of IRS officer Sameer Wankhede’s defamation suit against Netflix’s web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment. 

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav asked Wankhede how the suit is maintainable in Delhi and whether any cause of action arose in the city. 

Wankhede’s counsel argued that since the series is accessible and viewed in Delhi, the alleged defamation occurred within its jurisdiction.

The Court directed Wankhede to amend his plaint to explicitly show the cause of action in Delhi before proceeding further.
